The sample, as listed

Pay and titles in this week’s custodian postings.

These are the ten postings one Indeed search returned on Oct 25, 2026. They are a snapshot, not the whole market, and pay is shown exactly the way employers posted it.

Pay, as posted

$14.50 to $27.50 an hour on the janitorial postings; a self-promotion ad, a listing from May 2026 and a housekeeping listing with no clear employer are left out of the range.

3 of the 10 postings listed pay. Ranges are the lowest and highest figures we saw, not an average.

What the job is called
  • Janitorial Overnight
  • General Cleaner
  • Office Cleaner Part Time
  • 2nd Shift General Cleaner (DFW)
  • Floor Technician

Titles from the same 10 postings. Search for more than one of them.

One line, rewritten

Same work. Said like it counts.

Most custodian resumes describe the job. Hiring managers look for the scale and the result. Here is the move, on one line.

Before

Cleaned buildings at night.

After

Cleaned a 40,000-square-foot office building on the overnight shift: restrooms, break rooms and common areas, trash, dusting, vacuuming and mopping. Followed chemical safety rules and reported repairs and hazards to the facilities lead.

Illustrative example. It shows the method; it is not a real person’s resume.

Use your own numbers. If you do not know a figure, leave it out. A guessed number can cost you the interview.

The first read

What recruiters scan for first.

A first pass on a resume is quick. These five things should be easy to find in that time, ideally in the top third of the page.

  1. The kind of site: store, office, government building, outdoor property.
  2. Tasks in plain words: restrooms, trash, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, windows.
  3. Machines you can run, like floor buffers. One of the three postings asked for it.
  4. Safety: chemical handling, safe lifting, reporting hazards. All three postings named safety.
  5. The shifts you can work: overnight, split shift, weekends.

  • Up to five roles a week, posted that week, in your area
  • Each scored against your resume, with a cover letter written only from it

When your four Sundays are up, your last Range email offers four more for $15. It’s a link, not a renewal. Listings can close without notice, and we never promise interviews or offers.

Straight answers

Custodian resume questions.

Do I need experience to get hired as a custodian?

Not always. One of the three postings we read in full said experience is preferred but not required, and training is provided. Another preferred one year of janitorial, office custodian or porter work.

What should I list if cleaning was only part of my old job?

List the cleaning tasks you did and where: restrooms, floors, trash, break rooms. The postings ask for those tasks by name, not for a title.

Do I need a driver’s license?

Only for some jobs. One of the three postings needed a valid Texas driver’s license and auto insurance, because you drive between sites. If you have both, put them on the resume.

Will there be a background check or physical?

One posting at a government site required a fingerprint background check and a pre-employment physical test. Another said it is a drug-free workplace.

Do I need a summary at the top?

Two plain lines are enough: the kinds of buildings you have cleaned, the machines you can run and the shifts you can work.
