Pay and titles in this week’s HVAC technician postings.

These are the ten postings one Indeed search returned on Oct 25, 2026. They are a snapshot, not the whole market, and pay is shown exactly the way employers posted it.

Pay, as posted

$25 to $50 an hour on HVAC technician postings from the last six months, the top on lead and senior commercial roles. Four older listings and an industrial refrigeration lead role are left out of the range.

4 of the 10 postings listed pay. Ranges are the lowest and highest figures we saw, not an average.

What the job is called
  • HVAC Technician
  • Experienced Service Technician
  • Lead HVAC Service Technician
  • Senior Mechanical HVAC Plumbing Service Technician
  • HVAC Service Technician
  • HVAC Maintenance Technician

Titles from the same 10 postings. Search for more than one of them.

One line, rewritten

Same work. Said like it counts.

Most HVAC technician resumes describe the job. Hiring managers look for the scale and the result. Here is the move, on one line.

Before

Fixed air conditioners and heaters for customers.

After

Ran 5 to 7 service calls a day on residential and light commercial systems: diagnosed and repaired cooling and heating problems, did seasonal tune-ups, explained repair options to the owner and logged parts and notes on each call.

Illustrative example. It shows the method; it is not a real person’s resume.

Use your own numbers. If you do not know a figure, leave it out. A guessed number can cost you the interview.

The first read

What recruiters scan for first.

A first pass on a resume is quick. These five things should be easy to find in that time, ideally in the top third of the page.

  1. Your EPA 608 type, near the top. Two of the three postings we read in full required it; the third called it a plus.
  2. TDLR: two postings required TDLR registration or certification. Say yours.
  3. Residential, commercial or both, and the equipment: split systems, packaged units, chillers, boilers.
  4. Paperwork: all three postings asked you to write up the work. Name the software, like ServiceTitan, if you used it.
  5. Driving: all three asked for a valid license, and two asked for a clean record.

Straight answers

HVAC technician resume questions.

Which EPA certification do I need?

One of the three postings we read in full required EPA Universal. Another required Section 608 Type I and Type II. The third called EPA a plus. Write the exact type you hold.

Do I need to be registered with TDLR?

Two of the three postings required it: one said registered with TDLR, the other asked for TDLR technician certification. If you are registered, put it next to your EPA card.

I have mostly done residential work. Can I apply to commercial jobs?

One posting was residential and commercial. The other two were commercial and asked for eight or more years for lead and senior levels. Be clear about which you have done, and list any commercial equipment you have touched.

Does talking to customers really matter?

All three postings asked for it. One said you present repair or replacement options straight to homeowners. Show one time you explained a repair and the customer chose it.

Do I need to read wiring diagrams?

Two of the three postings asked for schematics, wiring diagrams or blueprints. If you can read them, say so in plain words.
